So here are some easy ways to turn your home into a tropical paradise!
So many people buy a gorgeous plant, but never learn it's growing conditions. If you are away from home for a long periods with the drapes closed, then that 'high light' plant that needs to be watered 'frequently' will NOT thrive! So rule number 1, learn a little about your plant. there are lots of plants that will do fine in lower light, but you have to know which ones will!
PLEASE don't take that 6 inch plant and put it into a huge pot! It will die eventually, roots of plant need some oxygen and all that wet soil will cause it to literally drown. Good rule of thumb, never 'pot up' more that 3 to 4 inches, 'You wouldn't put a baby's foot into their Daddy's shoe, would you'?
Invest in quality plants, don't buy that cheap palm [majesty comes to mind] instead buy that kentia palm, it's like comparing Cadillacs to Yugos!
Another 'plant killer', OVERWATERING!!! Feel the soil, forget those stupid meters, and feel the soil, if it feels wet, then...don't...water. After awhile you'll be able to just look at you plant, or pick it up to feel how light it is, to know when to water.
Keep them clean. Yep dust or wipe them down, you do it for your coffee table, why not for something that actually breathes?
One last piece of advice, ENJOY them! They make even the plainest of rooms come alive, and they actually clean the air! Do a search on 'plants and clean air' and you'll be amazed at what a few spider plants can do for a stuffy cubicle!
